EDUCATION
Continuing Education: Mr. Crabtree is currently Chief Engineering Technician with Maxim Engineering, Inc., of Coeburn, Virginia. His duties include developing engineering drawings, detailed plans and cross sections from field surveys; Using AUTOCAD to design and develop plans, such as hollow fills, side hill fills, haulroads, pond embankments and site plans, from rough sketches, field notes and instructions from engineers; Calculation of estimated storm runoff from proposed mining areas and design of appropriate drainage structures to meet applicable state and federal regulations (sediment ponds, earth and rock dams, spillways, open channels, pipes); Design and layout of primary haulroad and access roads for proposed operations; Design of length, grade, cut and fill sections, culverts, ditches and surfacing; Calculation of overburden yardage, material swell factors, stripping ratios and regrade configurations for surface mines; Design of excess spoil and coal refuse disposal fills including geotechnical studies, stability analyses, drainage control structures; Design and layout of underground mining operations including face-up areas, support facilities, transportation facilities, mine projections, strata control and ventilation systems; Calculation of strike and dip of strata, and coal reserves; Subsidence prediction calculations and subsidence control plans; Design achieved through the utilization and proficient use of computer design and drafting systems such as AUTOCAD, Planimeter, and digitizer; Create presentation materials using graphics on AUTOCAD and WordPerfect; Supervise lower grade draftsmen and delegate their job duties. From October, 1974 to March, 1982, Mr Crabtree was employed by Beth Elkhorn Corporation of Jenkins, Kentucky as an engineering detail technician. His duties included computing grade elevations, plotting surveys, and making contour maps for proposed construction; Compiling materials lists and cost estimates, structural steel detailing and design recommendations for conveyor design and construction; Calculation of coal reserves; Design and layout of underground mining operations including face-up areas, support facilities, transportation facilities, mine projections, strata control and ventilation systems; Conducted ventilation surveys and set spads; Subsidence control plans and subsidence prediction calculations; Created slide presentations using conventional drafting and graphic design methods. From January, 1972 to October, 1974, Mr. Crabtree was employed by Thompson & Litton, Inc. of Wise, Virginia as a draftsman. His responsibilities included drafting plans for sewage treatment plants and water treatment plants and assisting in design of consulting projects. |
